I would is absolutely appalled by the response on a campus that's preparing teachers to be able to -- circuit tried. The as I walk across campus and whatever course the word spread quickly. And I was married at that point and and I I find I spoke out this book out to expose students. Quick break and then one more story details on this fiftieth anniversary that's coming up next 1139. -- 1143. You know my only purpose here at doing this programs to make you think if I've done that and I've been successful. So we'll wrap up the week and this today with a piece appropriately from American thinker dot com written by -- least Cooper. Because you can't help but. Think about today. And then think about how things were fifty years ago. You know I didn't realize this but this Cooper writes. In 2010 -- Gallup poll gave JFK. In 85% approval rating. She says that is evidence that nearly all Americans. Respected him as a president regardless. A political ideology walk alive race sex or even religion. If you look at some of Kennedy's fiscal and foreign policies. -- Cooper writes it becomes apparent. The president Kennedy. Leaned toward conservatism. And he really might have been labeled a conservative. Had he lived. One part of his persona. She says that can be respected by any conservative. Is his quality of taking responsibility. For his decisions. Think about that and think about -- we're going from now. She says high marks have to be given for statements following the Bay of Pigs. Unlike current president who blames. Anything and everything but himself. Can't you never blamed the Eisenhower administration who came up with the Bay of Pigs planned Iranian visit advisors. From the press release made it clear to the media and public that Kennedy. Was the one accountable. And that it was he who made the final decision. Part of what it says president Kennedy estate in from the beginning. That this president he bears sole. Responsibility. President strongly opposed to anyone within or without the administration. Accepting. To shift the responsibility. In a press conference he made that now famous statement. Quote there's an old saying. That victory has a hundred fathers and defeat is an orphaned. To his staff he said quote I am the president. I did not have to do what all of you recommended. I am responsible Inco and quote. If you look good they are Cuban missile crisis. The limited nuclear test ban treaty. In Kennedy Americans saw an attitude of peace through strength. Ira Stoll wrote about this in his book JFK conservative he noted that Kennedy rejected the liberal argument to just lead to missiles in Cuba. Stole upset that quote people never hear that side only the thoughts of the so called war mongers. Kennedy showed restraint that his decisions. Were based on pacifism. Something else no one else ever talks about. Which -- -- does in her book. Is how. Theodore Sorensen. Arthur Schlesinger junior. In their best selling books edited outlines when talk when they -- you talking about Kennedy's 1963. American University speech. Defending the test ban treaty. What they did was re write history they're the ones they removed were as Americans we find communism profoundly repugnant. As they negation of personal freedom and dignity we shall be prepared if others were -- for more we shall be alert to try to stop it. So they -- to those two distorted history miss Cooper writes my hope is people. Will realize that this image portraying Kennedy as a liberal. Is totally. Unfounded undermined. -- Kennedy she says as an anti coal warriors still occurs today. With recent books like Jeff Greenfield if Kennedy lived an alternate history in the book. He attempts to show Kennedy changing his attitude of becoming a non cold warrior by citing speeches. There were given in the last year of his life. And there are others who tried to portray him. As you know. Any thing other than what he was. There are two other speeches in 1963. That -- -- Kennedy was -- -- him he wouldn't -- to capitulate to the Russians. He was very strong on national security compare that to now he understood that Americans were fighting a Cold War. And unlike the current president Kennedy went to a foreign country never. Apologized. For the greatness of America. If you think about the Berlin speech. He said there are many people in the world who really don't understand -- say they don't. What is the great issue between the free world and the Communist world let them come to Berlin. There are some who say that communism. Is the wave of the future let them come to Berlin and there are some who say in Europe and elsewhere we can work with the Communist let them come to Berlin. And there are even a few. Who say that it is true that communism. Is an evil system but it permits us to make economic progress. Well. Let them come to Berlin. Kennedy said of freedom has many difficulties. And democracy is not perfect. But we have never had to put a wall -- to keep our people in. Kennedy was a fiscal conservative. We've talked about this before people forget. Compared to today. You know he wanted to reduce the debt. To reduce the tax rates. From at the time from 91% to 65%. He wanted to reduce the capital gains tax to 19% he wanted to balance the budget. We liberals. Hate those ideas. But not Kennedy. So. It's about time ms. Cooper writes. That Kennedy be seen as a patriot. Who believe that America was a great nation. And initiated policies. That would continue to make America stronger and greater. The words of at least Cooper who writes for American -- dot com. I would only add to that. One of the most interesting things about doing this today the fiftieth anniversary is the stark contrast. Between then and now. Mean what if Kennedy lived. But the world be different. Yes would do what America have been different yes. There's no doubt in my mind. In the whole concept the Kennedys. Talked about it and so many occasions. But the greatness of this country and have been. You know inspiring us to think that America could be stronger and greater compare that to where we are now. Do you where have you listening to this right now. Do you still believe that America can be stronger and greater. And -- for some of the events. That are going talks. It is for me. Because there are times it during this program every day I. I I were honestly believe in many of you agreed with me some disagree but I I think we will never get back to where we work. I don't mean think we can get back to 50% of where we were I think too much damage has been done. Some say -- that's a negative defeatist attitude I'm just a realist. I just don't see. I don't see any inspirational leaders in America of today really and there are few that are trying but they're young and inexperienced. Because Ted -- -- of the world. The Michael ease of the war. But as far as somebody who's ready right now experienced. I mean if you had to pick. One leader so called leader in the country today. Politically speaking who is inspirational. Kinect and you come up with a name. I'd assume this. Again. I was nine years old. When he was assassinated. And I know for a long time after that. The things that Kennedy stood for even I was young but I even. The things I've read about you know long pass this day. Fifty years ago. I think Kennedy was very inspiring he had a lot of personal problems. There's no doubt about that was a perfect certainly not morally. But he just he didn't have the ability. To inspire people. Where is that inspiration. Today. We got a few minutes left to -- some thoughts feel free. It's 1152. Sorry it's some your parting thoughts on this fiftieth anniversary of the scarecrow assassinations. Of fear. Crush on Jackie -- was heard saying if she was holding her husband should -- rains that are -- what did they do. Now what happened she seemed shocked but not surprised -- among the beneficiaries of Kennedy being assassinated was Lady Bird Johnson. Who held vast holdings in bell helicopters. Which made tons of money during the Vietnam War the Kennedy was trying to disengage us from just another piece of the puzzle. This one Ross please please don't forget. Then another great American also died on this date fifty years ago. Over shot it overshadowed by the assassination of president Kennedy. That American probably had as much influenced. If not more on our culture as Kennedy. I speak of course of CS Lewis. Indeed -- All right folks have a terrific we can state -- and the Rush Limbaugh program is coming up next and don't forget right before one. We'll have another code word which could do put a thousand dollars in Christmas cash in your hands again that's coming up just before 1 o'clock. Right here on -- local WORD. 1063. News talk sports good lord willing see you Monday.
