You're listening to the Ross castle show. All right here's what I found out. AP story CNN and costs. This was out in early November. Conservation groups and county governments are fighting legislation. They contend. Will eventually lead to more out of state trash. Being dumped in South Carolina. Stinking up the state and polluting the environment. Business groups argue the proposal does no such thing. They contend the bill bans a government monopoly on trash. Insuring businesses have choices when it comes to waste disposal. And here's the part of the debate picks up when the legislature. Returns just few weeks here in January the bitter old. Limits county control over trash. Within their borders. Quickly passed the house last January by a vote of 89 to 28. Before getting hung up in the South Carolina senate. As part of an effort to prevent its passage. A coalition that calls itself don't dump on SE. Has launched a statewide campaign of radio and TV ads. That run her. Who are running now the group's members. Include the coastal conservation league this Sierra Club. Conservation voters of south Caro Carolina. And the association of counties. So -- I didn't know that that. For example the Sierra club's behind this. Quote this is about putting South Carolina first said and Timberlake. Executive director of the coastal conservation. Quote trash should not be a growth industry in South Carolina. The bill bars counties from requiring big garbage. Go to public landfills. 'cause there there are private. Even in the song -- You know you have. The county folks that come along pick up the trash and many -- -- this -- people have to pay for a private company. To do their their trash anyway currently in South Carolina. There -- nine public landfills owned by local governments. And their eight privately owned commercial landfills. That do except household garbage so supporters say. The bill stems from Horry county's 2009 ordinance. That would mandate that all trash generated inside that county go to the county on landfill. That -- always stood a court challenge in 2011. As the State Supreme Court sided with the county against the owner of a private landfills. Across the border Bennett Horry county Marion County. And a company that holds trashed of that landfill. Bonus for -- president of the state chamber of commerce said. The bill is about undoing that ordinance and stopping its spread quote it's about our business is being able to choose. And get competitive. Prices. So that in a nutshell it's what it's all about. So -- pretty simple. And should the county. Should any county be able have a law. That says you have to take your trash. To the county landfill or should people have the choice. The saying you know if I wanted to get to the counting Angela Campbell if I wanted to get to a private. Through a private company. I should be able to do that too. I can elect I feel like the freedom of that so it it if that's what this is all about. Then I think the ads are very misleading. -- you think about the -- Chairman here well we run those ads. Does it make it sound like. That we're just getting all of New York's garbage I mean they -- though the actors with the New York accent he I think you've dig you know what I god age.
